Synopsis: The witness of this investigation saw and took a photo of a strange black object in the sky. According to the witness, the object appeared like a balloon.

Evidence Submitted: Photo

Initial Action: Case opened as an AN1.

Investigation and Findings: API identified the object as a man-made “solar hot air balloon”. These mini hot air balloons are made from trash bags and heated by the sun. Once airborne, the object will float with the wind until sunset or sunlight is obscured by clouds. These objects, moreover, can travel a long distance and are often reported as “black UFOs.”

Object Details: Man-made object.

13-066-AN1 (Arizona City, AZ)

Untitled

Synopsis: On 10 Jan 13, at 0800, witness was driving near Arizona City, AZ when he noticed a strange object in the horizon. The witness then used a camera to take a photo of an object that appeared in the shape of a classic “flying saucer”.

Evidence Submitted: Photo

Initial Action: Case opened as an AN1.

Investigation and Findings:  Investigation complete. There was no indication on anything in this case but a perfect example of a lenticular cloud formation. There were no other objects or odd cloud sightings reported by UFO reporting databases from others in that area during that time frame. The “metallic” appearance mentioned by the WITNESS actually appears to just be the sun glinting off the cloud prominently. With no other evidence to the contrary, Investigator is confident closing this case as “Solved: Identified as classic lenticular cloud formation.”

Object Details: A lenticular cloud.

UFO Report: I was young about 8, I went to find friends to play, no one was to be found so I went to field adjacent to friends house. I heard a sound like a high powered turbines kicking down. I ran to clearing near road and seen two fighter jets in what looked like war games, in which was not abnormal seeing that an Air Force base was 20 miles away and remember the adults in the area after the fact complaining that jets were breaking house windows. But back to point. I seen these jets in combative maneuver shooting down a dashing silver object and went out of control at blinding speed fallow by what I thought was an explosion that knocked me back about  20ft. When I awoke probably a few hours later I heard a low fan sound that to my surprise was Big Cargo planes 3. Two we’re sky blue with solid white star in the middle and one blackish green flying in to the woods. Shortly after a High canvas troop transport rolling in the same direction. My father at the time had a bar that was in direct sight of the direction that this craft went down. I went to the bar and asked him if he seen the thing that went down, and he replied to me “I didn’t see anything and neither did you… You forget about it…”

Evidence Submitted: None

Initial Action: Case opened as an FB1.

Investigation and Findings:  Historical case only.

Object Details: Unresolved.

Flying saucers, alleged crashes and related reports of high strangeness will all be front and center Thursday, Aug. 8, when members of the UFO community hold some special online events. Blogger and well known skeptic Robert Sheaffer explained Monday in his post, ‘Before the Great Debate: My Review of ‘The Aztec Incident”, that he will debate ufology staple Stanton Friedman Thursday at 8 p.m. EST. The event will be carried live by the Revolution Radio Network.

Stanton Friedman is a physicist who has long contended that some UFOs are likely extraterrestrial spacecraft. He is a writer, frequent speaker at UFO conferences and well known for his perspectives supporting ET involvement in such cases as Roswell and the alleged abduction of the Hills.

Robert Sheaffer is a writer, skeptical investigator of UFOs and founding member of the UFO Subcommittee of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry. The legitimacy of alleged UFO crashes are certain to be addressed during the debate, Mr. Sheaffer wrote Monday.

API and Doubtful News hold a Google Hangout

Prior to the great debate, Antonio Paris of Aerial Phenomenon Investigations (API) and Sharon Hill of Doubtful News will conduct a Google Hangout. The event will be held from 7-8 p.m. EST and include a session for questions and answers. More details are available on the API website.

Mr. Paris is the founder and director of API, an organization set to bring more science to the study of UFOs. He is a former U.S. intelligence officer and author of the recently released book, ‘Aerial Phenomena: Reviving Ufology for the 21st Century’, which offers a look into the API investigative process, summaries of some 50 completed cases and the author’s vision for reviving ufology.

Ms. Hill is a geologist, leading skeptic and paranormal researcher. She is editor of Doubtful News and author of a 2010 thesis, ‘Being Scientifical: Popularity, Purpose and Promotion of Amateur Research and Investigation Groups in the U.S.’. The thesis was explored along with comments obtained from Hill in a blog post at The UFO Trail, ‘Sham Inquiry Run Riot’.

Interested parties might choose to mark their calendars, have snacks on hand and plan on settling in for an evening of special online events. It might indeed prove to be quite interesting.
